Lead by Example

Some days I feel ill-equipped to navigate this journey called motherhood. I feel ill-equipped because the world is so much different now then when I was a child. It’s unfamiliar territory. Uncharted waters. No matter how uncertain I feel in some areas of this voyage, there is one thing I know without a doubt to be true – kindness, selflessness, and a love for Jesus should be valued and passed on to our children. By their parents. Intentionally. So, I’ve made these promises to my kiddos, and I am working hard to keep them in hopes of a brighter world for them to call home.

1. I promise I won’t talk about other human beings in an ugly way. Because if I do – then you will.

2. I promise I won’t degrade other people because of their race, their religion, their gender, or their socioeconomic status. Because if I do – then you will.

3. I promise not to bully anyone. Because if I do – then you will.

4. I promise to try my best to never make anyone feel less than. Because if I do – then you will.

5. I promise to pray for you every single day.

6. And I promise that even when I’m not with you – God is, and He is a good, good God. Even in the midst of what seems like a very bad world.

Lead by example. Treat people like Jesus would. And pray hard.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

– Ephesians 4:29

Love is the Answer

“So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” – Romans 15:6-7

This verse.

My prayer.

My cry for myself. My cry for our world.

Love really is the answer. It always has been. Love is the foundation of all that is good in this world.

Life Gets Hard

“The Lord is my Shepherd

I have all that I need

He let’s me rest in green meadows

He leads me beside peaceful streams

He renews my strength

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His Name

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid

For You are close beside me

His rod and staff comfort me”

Psalm 23:1-4

Life gets hard, but Jesus never leaves our side.

the hurt

the fear

the disease

the stress

the pain

the disappointment

the shame

In your darkest valley – God is with you. He’s still here.

He’s Still There

Even if you can’t find the words.

Even if you don’t have any left.

Just sit.

Just be still.

Soak in God’s presence.

Even if He is silent.

He’s still there.

He’s there.

He promised.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” Isaiah 43:1-3

Keep Holding On

Are you in an overwhelming, bleak situation with no end in sight? Is desperation taking over your heart and strangling every bit of hope that you have left?

Don’t give up. Keep holding on. God can and will heal you. He will make you whole again. You just have to dig deep, gather up every ounce of hurt and anguish, and place it in His hands. Seek God and give the situation to Him.

When Jehoshaphat found himself staring face to face with an army of great magnitude – an army that he could not possibly defeat – he cried out to God not only in desperation, but also in certainty. He knew God was willing and able to take his situation and fix it.

The same God that defeated an army for Jehoshaphat is the same God that will defeat the army that is coming against you today.

God hasn’t changed. We just have to seek Him and believe.

“Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, and said: “O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?” – 2 Chronicles 20:5-6

“And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15

Don’t Give Up

I wasn’t going to post this, but then I opened my bulletin in church Sunday morning and there it was – the exact same verse staring at me that God had placed on my heart the day before.

Have y’all seen the meme that has the words thoughts and prayers crossed out, and then under that it says policy and change? When I saw it the first time it kind of made me take a step back. I will be honest – it made me really sad. But then I processed, mulled it over in my mind, and you know what? That meme is absolutely correct. Just SAYING thoughts and prayers will do nothing for our current situation.

Just saying that we will pray – does nothing.

But getting on our knees and actually praying – stretching our hands toward Heaven for our country – it CAN change things.

Yes, we need to do something. Yes, we need change. We need action. All of this is getting downright ridiculous and just sickening. But the change we need to start with are men and women that will pray. Really pray. Determined and intentional. On our knees. Sacrificing our time, our sleep, our show, our “me” time.

I am speaking from past experience, regret, and shame. I used to flippantly throw around the word “praying” without actually following through.

We’ve been studying the book of James on Sunday mornings, and I encourage you to go check it out. Take your faith and do something with it. Show God and everyone else that you are for real. Show people the love that Christ has shown us through acts of love and kindness.

We have to stop just saying these verses. We have to live them.

Don’t give up on America. Don’t give up on people. Don’t give up on God. And don’t just say that you will pray.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14

True Love

Let’s get back to the basics. Let’s stop trying to over complicate every single thing.

“And he walks with me and he talks with me

And he tells me I am his own

And the joy we share as we tarry there

None other has ever known.”

He tells me that I am His. There’s no better news today. There’s no better love than this. This is THE true love everyone is searching for.

He will walk with you all day.

He will talk with you all day.

And if you open your heart to Him in these moments you will find joy. You will find the love of your life.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” – 1 John 3:1
